Pilates and the Menopause: A Personal story part 3

And now ?

It’s about 14 years since I went into peri-menopause with all the health and wellness issues that this normal life phase brought into my life. I’m so glad to be finally out the other side and happy there is so much more knowledge and help available for women who need it now than there was14 years ago.

Fast forward to now 2025 and my usual doctor (GP) won’t prescribe hormone replacement therapy for me because the government guidelines have not changed yet. There is new research showing the benefits of HRT far outweigh the risks for many women, including older women like me. The government / health service needs to catch up with the new research. Luckily there are private doctors specialising in menopause who can and will prescribe. I’m using  https://menodoctor.com  Thanks to a friend who recommended this practice I am feeling better than I have for years.

Symptoms surprise.

There are many symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, the list is long and surprising. But given the importance of our reproductive hormones to many body systems the lack of research previously is more surprising to me.  I’ll give a list of improvements to my health and wellbeing here that have occurred since taking hormone replacement therapy, at the correct dose.

Improvements  to...

Headaches, low libido, poor sleep, muscle tiredness and joint aches, vertigo, brain fog, tinitus despite an good diet and fitness regime including Pilates practice.

Banish poor sleep and tired days

A big one is tiredness and lack of good quality sleep.

NOW

I no longer wake up anxious and can’t sleep again.

I no longer lie awake waiting to fall asleep.

I no longer feel tired every morning and every afternoon.

I no longer wake up feeling exhausted.

I sleep well and dream well every night.

Huge benefit to my mental health and mood.

Feel strong and confident

Before there was Bodily weakness and exhaustion.

I now feel strong and sure overall and, in my joints, again.

I’m surer footed and less anxious about misstepping.

I heal quicker.

I can train more and practice more Pilates.

I can walk and jog farther and faster.

I know my bone health is protected.

Huge boost to my confidence and enjoyment of life.

Forget memory issues

Where there was brain fog, now...

Easier recall of names people, places and things I’m trying to remember.

Less forgetful, less losing, and misplacing objects.

More aware of strange brain fades when they occur.

Less likely to do something odd like pour yogurt into my coffee.

Boost to confidence and less fear about dementia/ memory issues that could affect me.

Missing Libido

Libido was gone and now...

Increase in my lust for life.

More energy and enthusiasm.

More interest and engagement with my loved ones.

It’s rewarding to feel more connected and bolder.

Recurring distress

From Headaches, Vertigo, Tinnitus

Today All these symptoms have reduced by 90%

They now appear as stress related occasional events.

Less energy spent on feeling unwell, more full enjoyment of life.

Convert

I’m a convert unsurprisingly to hormone replacement therapy and would highly recommend exploring the possibility of hormone replacement therapy to anyone with symptoms.

I’d also suggest middle aged men feeling a lack of energy and enthusiasm have their hormone levels checked for low testosterone.

Testosterone is a very important hormone for men and for women and both sexes can suffer a drop in levels at middle age and beyond.

Bringing hormone up to a level that minimises symptoms has had a really positive effect on my life. Thanks for reading and sharing.
